We are seeking a highly motivated individual with basic Spanish and conversational English language skills to join our Management Training Rotation Program. This program is designed to equip aspiring journalists and managers with hands-on experience in all major aspects of newspaper management, including editorial, advertising sales, circulation sales, distribution, operations, and finance. By the end of the program, trainees will have the skills and knowledge necessary to take on leadership roles such as Managing Editor, Advertising Manager, or General Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editorial: Gain experience in content creation, editing, and the overall management of the editorial department. Work closely with senior editors to understand the intricacies of news reporting, feature writing, and editorial decision-making.
- Advertising Sales: Learn the ins and outs of advertising sales, including client relationship management, creating sales pitches, and developing advertising strategies that align with the newspaper's goals.
- Circulation Sales: Develop strategies to grow readership and circulation. Understand the dynamics of subscription sales, customer retention, and market expansion.
- Distribution: Oversee the distribution process to ensure timely and efficient delivery of the newspaper. Work with logistics teams to optimize distribution channels and solve any related challenges.
- Operations: Engage with the operations team to understand the day-to-day running of the newspaper, including managing office supplies, coordinating with departments, and ensuring a smooth workflow.
- Finance: Learn the financial aspects of running a newspaper, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Work with the finance team to ensure the paper remains profitable and sustainable.
Skills Development:
- Office Management: Become proficient in managing office operations, including scheduling, communication, and team coordination.
- Recruitment: Learn how to identify and recruit top talent for various positions within the newspaper.
- Data Mining: Develop the ability to analyze and interpret data to inform decision-making and strategy development.
- Adobe Creative Suite: Gain proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere, to assist with content creation and design tasks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- Strong interest in the newspaper industry and a desire to pursue a management career.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
